The Chiltern 20 Challenge Hike is a tough walk in The Chiltern Hills, organised by Greater London North Scout County.

The Challenge is a test of physical ability as well as good orienteering.

Please ensure that each member of the team along with any accompanying adults reads this guide and understands the rules of the event.

We want to make it clear that the two routes created for this year’s event are more physically and navigationally challenging.  There are two levels of this challenge: The senior route has been measured at 18.5kms and the junior route has been measured at 13kms.

The Senior event is for any member of the Scout Troop. The event rules are unchanged.  Teams can either have one or two adults walking with them, or if the Scout Leader has assessed that the team is competent enough, the team will be allowed to walk without an adult accompanying them.

The Junior event is for Scouts aged under 12 years old on the day. All teams taking part in the junior event will still need to have one or two adults walking with them for safety purposes.

All adults accompanying a team must be current members of The Scout Association and have a valid DBS certificate on the day of the event and must supply their membership number when teams are registered. Any adult walking with a team is honour bound not to take the lead. This role is purely to ensure the safety of the young people.

All Scout walkers will receive an individual certificate which can be used to pass part of the Teamwork Challenge Badge.

Each team must comprise between three and five Scouts. A team may be accompanied by one or two adults if the Scout Leader decides this would be a safer option for the team.

The event is open to all members of The Scout Association who are in the Scout Troop Section aged between 10 and 14½ years old.
